True Story Reveals The Brutal Life Growing up as a “Son Of Hamas”
Fear, violence, secrecy and danger were part of everyday life for Mosab Hassan Yousef, son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding leader of the internationally recognized Palestinian terrorist organization known as Hamas. For the first time, Yousef tells the shocking true story of his days as a member of a deadly terrorist group in the book Son of Hamas (March 2, 2010/SaltRiver). Now living in the United States, Yousef has rejected his violent past and is now risking everything to expose closely-guarded, never-before-told secrets in an effort to show the world a way to peace.
Since he was a young boy growing up in the West Bank town of Ramallah, Yousef has had access to the inner workings of Hamas, its political takeover of the Palestinian Authority, its violent efforts to destroy Israel and its drive to establish a Palestinian state. As the eldest son, Yousef assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his father’s legacy, politics, status…and power. But everything changed when Yousef turned away from terror and violence, and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader.
“…Few Westerners can come close to understanding the complexities of the Middle East and its people. But I do—by virtue of a most unique perspective,” writes Yousef. “ …I am a son of that region and of that conflict. I am a child of Islam and a son of an accused terrorist. I am also a follower of Jesus.”
In Son of Hamas, Yousef reveals new information about this dangerous terrorist organization and unveils the truth behind his own secret role. He describes his surreal journey to a new faith that instructed him to love his enemies. And he tells the story of the agonizing decisions that led him to walk away from his family, friends and homeland.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Mosab Hassan Yousef was born in Ramallah, in the West Bank in 1978. His father, Sheikh Hassan Yousef, is a founding leader of Hamas, a terrorist organization responsible for countless suicide bombings and other deadly attacks against Israel.
Yousef was an integral part of the movement, for which he was imprisoned several times by the Shin Bet, the Israeli intelligence service. He withstood torture in prison only to discover Hamas was torturing its own people in a relentless search for collaborators.
He began to question who his enemies really were—Israel? Hamas? America? After a chance encounter with a British tourist, Yousef started a six-year quest that jeopardized Hamas, endangered his family and threatened his life. He has since become a follower of Jesus and sought political asylum in the United States.
